Inheritance Progress Report

For starters, I decided to cash in my "Writer's Choice" votes to put toward my working on Inheritance this week.  I figured I was working on a lot of stuff related to that game and I'd be more productive this week wrapping up those loose ends rather than trying to work on Wanton Cove with while trying to remember what all still needed resolving in Inheritance.  If not for my cashing in those votes, this week would have been a Wanton Cove week.  And if it's any consolation, it's almost certain that next week will be a Wanton Cove week instead.

I had mentioned over the weekend that I'd be trying to get a new TEST build up today.  Not sure that it's going to happen, so I'll try to bump that out early tomorrow.  I wrote a bit of content today that I haven't gotten around to plugging into the game yet.  Once it's in and had a quick test, I'll send out a TEST build for testers.

Yesterday and today was spent working on bug fixes and other minor revisions.  Lots of little things.

This evening I shifted my attention to punishments for our new girl, Mitsuko.  Wrote about 1.2k words of content for her initial punishments, . . . then my computer crashed.  Lost it all.  Started the computer back up, got back to work, and the second time it turned out to be 1.3k words of content (No idea why that happens.  Any time I have to write something a second time, it inevitably turns out larger than the first writing of it.  Go figure.)

A good day of work, not great, but good.

Next two days should be a little slow on the work front (Kind of like today), but am going to try writing a couple of locations for the town each of those days.  Later in the week I should have two uninterrupted days to work, so I should have some good progress to report those days.  New test build will go up this coming weekend with the new Inheritance build most likely coming out on the 3rd.

I always find it a bit demoralizing. Like the wind goes out of my sails. The best thing for me though is if I jump straight back into it and get back to work. If I put it off, it's very hard to make myself work on it again. Sometimes it comes out better, usually it turns out about the same, but for some reason it always comes out bigger. Trick is to get past it to regain my forward momentum. I actually write in Notepad++ since it does a lot of things that makes my work easier, like opening the game format files. You are correct however that I should find some form of backup system. The biggest issue I have with an online system like you suggest though is that I often have internet troubles, and with no internet, online repositories can be difficult to use properly.

Man, the idea of losing progress on content because of a computer crash has gotta be the worst feeling. I've had that happen to me a couple of times and whenever it does, it tends to never turn out the same way since I have to rebuild the concept from the ground up. Sometimes it turns out better, sometimes worse. Worst thing is that I can never exactly be sure. Not sure what you use to write, but have you considered looking for a platform that offers some level of auto-saving so a crash wouldn't affect your documents like Google Drive, FocusWriter, Fargo, or anything similar?
