New story idea:
Added 2018-08-19 17:00:00 +0000 UTCI've been spending a lot of time thinking about Wanton Cove lately. I've come to the conclusion that since we're just now starting in on a new chunk of content, largely improvements to the game, but also new content to broaden the experience, that I will be seeing that through over the next few months with the hope of wrapping up this new chunk of content some time early next year.
Once that is done however, I'm going to take a break from Wanton Cove for a while. When that happens, I want to create a short story/game, probably on a similar scale to what The PuppetMaster was for size, maybe a little bigger. I'm picturing it as something that will most likely be completed in 2-3 months time and once it's done there's a very good chance I'd be wading back into Wanton Cove again.
This tale is one I've been rolling around in my head for a couple of days now. It would draw heavily from Egyptian Mythology, and would likely play as more of an adventure themed game.
Anyway, with all of that said, I wanted to share a little teaser I wrote for the story. I'd love to hear people's thoughts in the comments below!

Chariot of the Gods:
The solar ship Atet had traveled a millennia through the space between stars, fleeing the destruction of it's world of origin Ptah. She was never intended to see use as a military vessel, but even so the ship shows signs of heavy battle damage.
As the ship passes a nearby solar system, automated systems scan the sun and the planets that surround it.
For the first time in the ship's long journey, the scanners detected a habitable that had not been laid to waste by the war the ship was fleeing.
More active scans begin, seeking out any sign of the dreaded enemy and the broken barren worlds that are left in their wake.
A closer scan detects traces of the enemy, as if their kind had passed through the solar system in the distant past but did not linger for long.
Lights begin to flicker to life as additional ship's systems come to life. The life pod of the last surviving member of the ship's crew, possibly the last surviving member of it's race, flickers and makes a soft whirring sound. Within seconds a digital readout flashes to life and displays characters in an alien language.
When the front of the survival pod folds open, a blue green man gasps, his large oval eyes flying wide. There's a look of panic in his features as he scrambles naked from the pod.
Overall, he looks much like a human, only taller and with a head that is elongated. His eyes are oval shaped and solid black.
He looks around frantically, searching for any sign of danger, then dashes to the computer station where he begins typing in commands.
Within seconds, he finds the information he was seeking, No signs of pursuit.
Nearly weeping in relief, he takes a deep breath to steady himself before typing in several more commands.
A planet, Much like Ptah. Traces of the hated enemy having visited the system, but no sign of their habitation. And most encouraging, signs of primitive life untouched by the enemy's corruption.
Sitting heavily in the chair at the console, he slumps, looking like a man defeated. He knows that he should feel elated at having escaped with his life, but knowing that everyone he has ever cared is either dead, or far worse, felt like a crushing weight to him.
A light on the console begins to flash, requesting input. He merely stares at it, unable to will himself to make a decision.
Eventually, he presses several buttons on the console. It doesn't end the flashing light, but instead brings up a secondary display that showed grainy images of the local population. They appear to have light brown skin, their heads aren't long enough, and their eyes are too small. Even so, they have a striking resemblance to the creature sitting at the console.
Even if there aren't any of my own people left to save, perhaps there is something here worth saving?
With a heavy sigh, he enters several commands into the console. The flashing light turns off and the ship groans as it alters course.
Well Ra, for right or wrong, this is where I make my stand.
Comments
It's a little bit of that, a little bit of pure Egyptian mythology, and a bit of something else that will be revealed later. In this case though, Ra isn't the bad guy but instead will be the main character in the tale.
