I interpret as Steven wanted them to treat him more like an adult they kept doing things for children and I thought Garnet already said in the original Steven Universe that she was going to treat him differently because she had to change the way she thinks about Steven but I don't personally think a child owes a parent anything abusive or not. Adult children have a right not to speak to their parents.

I think the thing is Steven always had to take on more responsibility than he should have as a kid, so now that he's older, he thinks he needs to "act his age" so others that depend on him aren't disappointed in him. I think he believes the only way he can show people they can rely on him is by being more "mature" than he was. It was really nice of the gang to try and relieve some of his stress in the things he used to love, but I also appreciate that at the end, they did tell him that they'll also respect his choice to get back to work if he feels like he needs to
