"Last Ounce Of Courage" (w/ Jesse Brenneman)

We welcome Know Your Enemy Film Correspondent Jesse Brenneman on the show to discuss a true marvel of the medium, Darrel Campbell's 2012 war-on-Christmas fever dream LAST OUNCE OF COURAGE. (If you really love freedom, you can watch the film here, before you listen. But it is not at all necessary.)

Jesse is a seasoned radio producer, dear friend, and very funny dude. He has his own new podcast: Tech Talk with Tim and Ted. (It's so good.)

Just now listening to this (today is 1/25/2021) and Bob Revere's monologue at the end of "Last Ounce of Courage" is eerily reminiscent of the arguments heard outside the Capitol on 1/6/2021. Obviously not a 1-to-1 relationship in substance, but very much a precursor in rhetoric and mindset which (perhaps with the benefit of hindsight) appears to have a logical conclusion of standing up for what you believe in, and acting out in the fashion of the insurrection at the Capitol

I’m sure you guys have had this question before - but who does your intro and outro music? I remember you brought it up on an early episode, but I didn’t remember when and I don’t know if you change it every week. It’s really good.

RD Meyer

I hope these explorations of right wing films continue! have you given a thought to older more mainstream titles? The red scare era for instance, has many gems including one of my personal favorites My Son John which is at points genuinely moving in its portrayal of ideological conflict within families while also a ridiculous John Birch Society fantasy on balance. Directed by Leo McCarey of the Bing Father O'Malley pictures and An Affair to Remember.

Dang! Should be fixed now.

Know Your Enemy

It is so wild. Thanks for listening and supporting and putting up with us!

Great podcast. Fascinating analysis of this film. I tried to click on the links to the readings by Ronald Reagan, but I got an error message for each. "This site cannot be reached."

Wow, clicked the link to watch the movie first. Had the vibe of really overacted and way too long version of Red Nightmare with Jack Webb... Ok, on to the podcast then. First time commenting love the show. The How Conservatives Argue has become an occasional relisten for me.
