Added 2020-10-19 12:45:17 +0000 UTCAn update for mid-October: I spent a bit of time on writing the book last week, adding some better explanations on a section about Interval Vectors. Other than that, my energy has mostly been focused on preparing an EP for release (it'll be out Oct 31), along with domestic stuff and day-job antics. I'm grateful that the support on patreon is enough to cover my server costs (more or less) to keep those music theory pages alive on ianring.com. Thank you!
My latest reading has been "Composition and Cognition" by the esteemed professor and composer Fred Lerdahl. It's good so far but I'm only a dozen pages in, & I'm hoping to spend more time with it in the upcoming weeks.
I've also noticed an uncharacteristic flood of comments on the Youtube materials, focused on the Maqam scales... folks are 'splaining to me (in the comments) that the videos aren't appropriate for understanding arabic music. Well, of course. It is what it is.
