Stymied by tools, again
Added 2024-02-19 15:52:41 +0000 UTCWas working on the book this morning, and found that my SFTP plugin for Sublime Text no longer works, since upgrading my Mac to Sonoma.
This is a wet blanket on my productivity, since I use it nonstop, any time I make an adjustment to the LaTeX or the figure SVGs, I use that tool to upload to the rendering server. And it's a plugin I paid for! A bug report has already been filed... and I see on the forums that it's affected EVERYONE who uses the plugin on Sonoma.
This isn't a crisis -- I can figure out other ways to send files by SFTP. But when you have a great workflow and you want to get elbows-deep in the creative work, this kind of retooling is annoying.
I have seriously considered switching to use VIM for *everything*
I looked at Overleaf. That has potential. But it isn't quite what I need -- I have a lot of home-made tools and scripts built in PHP for managing citations and glossary and indexes, and I do pre-builds of data tables and lists (using the same music analysis scripts that also generate the web pages at ianring.com/musictheory). Switching to an online LaTeX editor would not let me keep those powerful pre-processing steps.
Lesson: if you take too long to finish a project, your tools will become obsolete.
