So... I'm writing a book
Added 2020-02-28 04:22:02 +0000 UTCIt started as a small endeavour just to turn the scale detail pages into single-page PDF handouts... then I decided to add a preface with some explanation of the terms and stats... and that has expanded into pretty much a whole book with four major chapters and about 45 sections... Very little of it is borrowed from previous work, there are whole new topics being covered that aren't mentioned in the website, and it's all very scholarly and rigorous. I have a great start on it but it's so ambitious, I can tell it's going to take many months of hard work and meticulous research and writing. Meanwhile, I would like to make maybe one video tutorial in March but I haven't chosen a topic yet.
A couple of the other things I was working on have taken a back-burner... my collaboration with an Italian theorist regarding a new formula for assessing the "brightness" of a sonority has finished, or at least my part of it has. He is going to write it up and maybe I'll see it in 2021, who knows? There isn't any hurry. And the diversion about helping an AI/ML expert to make a bot that composes piano music... well that has been sort of set aside for a bit. There is a lot of work to do on the routines that analyze and learn from a corpus of common rep, and it's going to take some time to assemble that.
Finally, a big thanks for recent patrons who signed up in the past few weeks and days. It's inspiring to think that someone is willing to slap down some real currency to support my nerdy little factory of music geekiness. I am grateful!
