We go back in our Tenet time machines to the lockdown days of 2020, and the first instances in which JK Rowling went full 'mask off' with the gender stuff. We talk about the weird politics of the Ickabog, the Death of the Author, JK Rowling's post-Harry Potter need to control every aspect of the franchise, and crucially, how she gave (some) of this up in order to keep on TERF posting. Finally, we ask - will JK Rowling go "full Glinner" ? Seems unlikely for now, but if 'gender critical' groups keep demanding more of her, it might not be so inconceivable....

2021-12-13 18:58:54 +0000 UTCA few months back I came up with a bit of Harry Potter headcanon: the reason that Moaning Myrtle haunts the boys' bathroom isn't that she's a pervert (and incidentally that it's the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets) but rather that she's trans, and Hogwarts made her use the boys' bathroom because they suck. Also Tom Riddle is a tr*nny chaser who murdered Moaning Myrtle (using the basilisk) so that the rest of the school wouldn't find out about his relationship with her. (It's been literally twenty years since I read the book, so don't tell me my theory is implausible because of some detail or another that I forgot, lol.)

2021-12-10 14:37:40 +0000 UTCSpeaking of people with late-stage poster's brain, Peter Coffin's book is basically 100% about the sorts of toxic fandoms you talked about here, only filtered through the lens of Guy Debord. (I read the book like three years ago, when Peter Coffin had only burned about half as many bridges as they've burned by now.) So if you want to read a book that makes the voice in your head sound like Peter Coffin, you might enjoy it, I guess?
