The Revolution Will Not Have A Brand Partner ft. Rachel Connolly
Added 2022-02-25 12:10:41 +0000 UTCFriend of the show Rachel returns to the pod to talk about her recent Guardian piece on influencers, cynical activism and the limitations placed on protest movements when corporate-backed influencers jump on the bandwagon. We talk about how influencer marketing has changed over the past decade, to the point where it is now entrenched into the daily lives of most internet users in subtle and unexpected ways, leading to a situation where we can't really define what a 'celebrity' is anymore, abstracting what we mean by, and consider to be, "influence".

2022-03-01 19:42:52 +0000 UTCThe poet tweet pissed me off right away, and not because I disagreed with it. The needlessly combative nature of phrases like 'the hill I will die on' and 'teachers lied to you' which are intended (hard to read intent into it though) to be a reaction that provokes interaction, but it's just the same declarative statment language that makes the whole thing trivial when applied to posting because it's such a generic voice.
