Therapy.txt ft. P.E. Moskowitz
Added 2022-06-24 11:00:57 +0000 UTCNote: Phoebe's audio is a wee bit blown out for the latter half of this episode. By pure decibels it's much quieter than P.E's but it feels like a wall of sound. Don't trust your lying ears it's not that loud
On this week's bonus episode, we are joined by P.E. Moskowitz, author of Rabbit Hole and the Mental Hellth newsletter, to discuss how people talk about mental health online in general, and in particular to discuss their essay 'The Buzzfeedification of Mental Health'. But first, a quick stop-in with friend of the show and poster Louise Mensch!
You can find P.E's newsletter at https://mentalhellth.xyz/
The essay we mention is here https://mentalhellth.xyz/p/the-buzzfeed-ification-of-mental
and everything else; essays, articles, and writings, is linked to within https://moskowitz.xyz/
Give it a glance, it's all really good!

you can very easily reconcile the fact that NATO used Ukraine to provoke Russia with the fact that Russia's invasion is indeed a bad thing for the people of both countries. these ideas don't conflict

2022-07-01 14:20:55 +0000 UTCThe thing that annoys me about the idea that NATO provoked Russia is that, while, yes, NATO has a legitimate history of military aggression, that history doesn’t justify Russia starting a proxy war in a non-aligned country. It’s literally the same logic that led to the American involvement in the Vietnam War. Vietnam was not attacking anybody, and neither was Ukraine!

2022-06-26 16:52:09 +0000 UTCRegarding “you are surrounded by NATO”, there was a period of time called the “prisoner in the Vatican” after the Kingdom of Sardinia conquered Rome where the Pope refused to recognize the newly formed Kingdom of Italy. This situation was resolved by Benito Mussolini signing the Lateran Treaty in 1929, and, well… we all know how well things went with the Pope during World War II… you know, speaking of Catholic Nazis and all that…

2022-06-26 16:48:40 +0000 UTCThe problem with sedevacantists (“empty-chair-ists”, as in the Pope’s cathedra, or bishop’s chair) is that they tend to be basically Nazis. But other than that! (Also, yes, when Phoebe says “I don’t know if it’s the sort of thing where you leave a chair out”… she’s a lot closer than I think she thought she was, lol.)
