Think of the Children! ft. Annie Kelly

This week Annie Kelly of the QAnon anonymous podcast joins us to talk about how, even among all the shit in the news, it turns out basically every library in the country is about to be inundated with abuse and violence, as the ‘grooming/pedo’ panic sweeps the nation. A number of libraries across the country, including one in Norwich, where Annie is based, was protested by far-right and conspiratorial groups, after a number of them participated in ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ - in which drag queens read childrens stories to children while their parents sit there aimlessly scrolling on their phones.

Not far enough, where's my Lorde and Anzaldúa? (I do really love and respect Firestone in all seriousness, but in my research for my dissertation I use second-wave as a shorthand insult for feminists who are racist)

This was a terrifying, saddening and utterly necessary episode

One weird thing for me is that Ilya Lichtenstein is the same age as me and grew up a couple miles from me in suburban Chicago, so he very plausibly had mutual acquaintances with me as a kid.

Though you might be talking about someone other than Heather Morgan? (Heather Morgan is American. Her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, has dual US-Russian citizenship but was apparently born in Illinois.)

I mean also legitimate radical feminists like Shulamith Firestone were actually pretty cool, and TERFs have zero relation to that history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dialectic_of_Sex

RE Phoebe's comment about not ceding ground to the right and talking about things on their terms: I think it's time to disavow the term TERF as a shorthand for transphobes because those people aren't radical feminists in any way. They are at best Jane Austen level white feminists who want their "equity" built on the backs of other minoritized groups. You can read a lot of colonial testimonies that point out just how cruel the white women were to their servants. Something we see today just as much in making your delivery drivers do dances at your ring bell or you give them a bad review, etc etc.

Sorry- typo on our end. fixed now!
