You're Doing Great, Sweetie ft. Jathan Sadowski

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have had little choice but to address the current and ongoing "Elon situation" at Twitter. We're joined by Jathan, co-host of This Machine Kills, and the author of Too Smart: How Digital Capitalism is Extracting Data, Controlling Our Lives, and Taking Over the World,  to try figure out what Elon's strategy actually is, or if he's too trapped in grievances to think about running Twitter as a business. We also talk about what Elon gets right - namely, a recognition that social media platforms don't really have any value in and of themselves - and how this exposes the shams and illusions of the content economy that govern much of our lives today.

Not sure how much I agreed with the idea with 'many on the left' not following the Epstein stuff up; I mean, the answer to 'for whom' is 'Prince Andrew among others'. That was all over the discourse for a while, as ephemeral as the discourse can be.

Devon as the disembodied voice of God honestly makes this podcast so much better

Thanks very much, that's very kind of you (and thanks for the recommendations - fingers crossed it's acute rather than chronic and it goes away on its own). Very sorry to hear of your own struggles with it, it really does suck! I hope you find something that substantially improves and manages it yourself soon - P

I'm sorry about your sciatic nerve, Phoebe. Sciatica sucks so, so bad. I've been living with chronic sciatica for four years now, and I can at least promise you that if you don't recover naturally in six weeks, epidural injections into the spine absolutely do make the symptoms resolve. If you can get your heartrate up without additional pain, I highly recommend it. There've been a couple studies that have found that it is often effective in managing the pain. Other people also report that acupuncture is very effective at managing their pain, but I've never tried it myself. I hope that you're feeling better soon.

Patiently waiting for Phoebe to just start shouting STELLAAAAAAAA at everything Hussein says.
