2022: A Year in Discourse ft. Rebecca Jennings
Added 2022-12-27 10:01:03 +0000 UTCThis week, to round out a year that has felt increasingly like an all-out assault on the senses, we spoke to Senior Vox Correspondent Rebecca Jennings about her article, 'Every "Chronically Online" Conversation is the same".
This was a really fun way to end the year! It's always nice to talk to people who also understand how broken communication online is.

Dang, Phoebe, I'm sorry to hear that you're going through it too. You might be right, I would like us to have moved past "it's just a bad period". Either way, I wish you solidarity and lots of naproxen in the new year.

I know there's been a push for it to be classified as a disability, but I'm not optimistic about that being helpful beyond further self categorisation since presumably it will still be basically impossible to get financial support for the times when it's severe enough you can't work (this is Phoebe answering in case it wasn't clear!)

2022-12-28 15:48:39 +0000 UTCAdhd discourse online drives me up a fucking wall. It makes anyone who actually struggles with it seem like the most obnoxious person on the planet. Someone I'm very close to, on the other hand, has autism and it's absurd how hostile our world is to people with autism; and it pisses her off how many people who may or may not have autism use their different brain as an excuse to be a dick. She loves to say "autistic people can be assholes but they're not assholes because they're autistic". Then she found out she has endo and we got to see how much worse it can get. In spite of how debilitating the disease is it's not categorized as something that requires disability services. She can't get out of bed and yet she can't stop working most of the time.
