I read an essay years ago comparing Luther and Erasmus. If Luther was the OG poster, Erasmus was the OG shitlib: Erasmus was the better scholar and theologian of the two, but he just couldn’t bring himself to upset his friends in the Church by denouncing the structural abuses in any terms stronger than mild ridicule
