Countering anti-refugee narratives ft. Ellie Mae O'Hagan

This week we're talking to Head of External Engagement at the Good Law Project, Ellie Mae O'Hagan, about the most common anti-refugee and anti-asylum seeker arguments and narratives, and how to counter them. Effective use of language is just one tool in an arsenal that should include being generous with your time and resources, but knowing the most common pitfalls will help.

Great ep. I’m starting a new social network that emphasises discussion; PM me for an early access invite.

The point about most people absorbing politics passively is so important. For any given subject - political issues, movies, whatever - most people have only a casual acquaintance. Which is why I get very annoyed when current popularity (or the appearance thereof) is taken as something innate, and not the product of a vocal minority leading a less committed majority.

Really liked this ep, especially Ellie going into some of the actual problems in the Left's "anti-anti-refugee" narratives (eg. "not illegal" using the word "illegal" to begin with).
