It is so wild to hear how this works in a place where class stratification is so stark like the UK because it really puts my status as "poorest boy at the private school" sense of being locked out of certain experiences into context in the US, where these things are often more subtle. I so often got to rub shoulders with people who did the white house internships. Those were never an option for me though.
