EMPOWERED vol.11 back cover, with work stages

Here's a little sneak preview for the (as yet nonexistent) Patrons, featuring the back cover of Empowered vol. 11—with the book's spine tossed in, as a bonus! Here's more info on this long-awaited installment, which hits the shelves of North American comics stores on Sept.18, 2019, and bookstores (and Amazon) on October 1.

Now, for the work stages! Here's the initial rough for the back cover's Emp image, with Emp seemingly spear-riding with a downward tilt:

Next up we see the pencils, in which Emp's figure wound up "flying level," which seemed to suck some of the life out of the image. Also, I plumb forgot about the "vapor, glitter FX" that was supposed to trail off her shredded supersuit:

Next follows the inked version, rendered with size S and XS PITT Artist Pens. These pens' line quality isn't as good as the Japanese "maru" pen tips I once used, but unlike those finicky quills, PITT markers can ink on any paper surface with nary a hiccup.

Next up were the colors, as rendered by the great Arist Deyn (who also colored the front cover illo). Note the striking element of Emp's vividly blue eyes, which really worked out well (IMHO):

Somewhere during this process, I played around with a mock-up for the back-cover layout, using the figure rough and an older Empowered back cover:

Ah, but then I thought better of the "level-flying" Emp, and rotated her so she was seemingly "climbing," flight-wise:

Alas, I seem to have forgotten to pass along the latter rough to Dark Horse, as the first pass on the assembled cover featured a level-flying Emp, hence this tweaked guide jpeg I sent back:

And there you go! Hope you enjoyed this wee preview, folks!

BTW, does anyone care about having these files only as inline images, as opposed to also being available as attachments? Just curious.

That is an excellent point, one I've only now fully appreciated while squinting uselessly at someone else's Patreon post on my phone. I'll definitely try to do more attachments in the future.

Emp's eyes ARE really striking, I love it! I also love getting to see a bit about how the suit fits around her head (I'm an oddball about how stuff fits). When they're inline the images all have "1" as their auto save file name, which is annoying. The attachments do make it much easier to download.

Let me know when those Capitan Rivet plushies go up for sale!

My only issue is that when viewing them on the phone app there is no way to zoom in for a closer look.

I don't particularly mind the images not being there as attachments but I think it's a nice option to have as I would always prefer that option as I save images.
