EMPOWERED & SISTAH SPOOKY #1 thumbnails, pt.1
Added 2019-05-01 18:51:13 +0000 UTCBehold, my thumbnails for the first half of issue #1 of last year's Empowered and Sistah Spooky's High School Hell, a six-part miniseries written by me, drawn by Carla Speed McNeil, and colored by Jenn Manley Lee. More info on the project here.
While I always have to do page roughs like these for my own reference when I'm scripting a comic (I'm a visual thinker, folks), I don't necessarily pass 'em along to the artist who's drawing the book. This time around I did, just 'cause Carla has a very different layout style than I do, and "cross-pollinating" narrative approaches seemed like it might be fun to play around with.
Later on, I might post showing all the work stages on a given Emp & Spooky page, if anyone's interested. Also, come to think of it, I could post the issue's (full) script, if you're up for some heavy reading. (My scripts tend to be rather long, alas.)
And that's it for the first half! The issue's second half will be along in a bit; brace yourselves for some fully two-color thumbnails, won't you? (Ooh, ah!)

Whenever you do the roughs/layouts for a book, your trademark framing styles always shine through. It was so prominent in Iron Man: Hypervelocity that it almost felt like you drew it (no offense to Brian)! So cool to see the roughs for this book, too!
