Ye Olde Crappe, pt.1: ALIEN ink wash page

Behold, yet another Patreon category, and an embarrassing one at that! Not that I intend to add very many posts to this hash tag, though, as this is where I'll occasionally dump some really old and seriously crappy material from my pre-professional days.

Here's an ink-wash assignment for a Kubert School class; no idea which one, or which year, for that matter. I simply photocopied a page from the comic-format ALIEN photonovel, transferred it to Bristol board and traced off open outlines in ink, then slapped down some fairly muddy ink washes. Honestly, though, the results ain't that bad; bit of a Tim Bradstreet (before Tim Bradstreet) feel. Pity that this high-contrast technique is so utterly dependent on tracing from photoreference...

Hard to say, as this was probably the last time I ever did a B&W ink wash. The technique never grabbed me much, gotta admit.

I really like that first panel. Now I'm curious how some of your more recent art would look like using an ink wash.

An oldie but a goodie. Reminds me of Rob Schambergers style but in B&W. https://youtu.be/jOHA2_9eiYo Inspirational stuff here! *Pulls out tablet to art* :3

Wow! Now THIS is something I never thought I would see! Glad to know I'm not the only person who kept their art school assignments. Thank you for being willing to share this with us.
