02/03/2020- It’s All About Alasdair

Alasdair. The beloved vampire man who has very very very many underlying issues that he really needs to solve but instead chooses to drown his sorrows in blood and suffering. I plan on using him in De Novo, but he can also be a standalone. Kinda just depends on if I REALLY wanna use him.

Anyway, he’s done a lot of bad things according to human standards, but he, being a very powerful vampire that lacks nothing (except peace of mind but he ain’t ready for that conversation) kind of doesn’t see many of the things he’s done as bad. In this universe, there are two kinds of vampires. Those that were once human, and those that were vampires from the very beginning of their lives. These pure blood vampires are very very powerful and extremely hard to kill. They are, in essence, a completely different species from humans, and thus don’t really empathize much with humans. Of course this sentiment varies on a case-by-case basis, but it is even more so for pure bloods, and even more so for Alasdair. This doesn’t mean that he can’t genuinely come to like human beings and enjoy their company, it just means that he would not be opposed to erasing the existence of a human if he is slighted by them and will think nothing of it.

It’s also important to note that currently, Alasdair is the oldest known vampire in the world. He has seen so much more than the other vampires that currently live, including the REASON why they are so few now. Vampires are an endangered species basically. There really are not many left, and all those that are there lead very secluded and secretive lives, rarely interacting with humans at all. Most of these vampires are humans that were turned, so they have more of a choice in their diet (blood of other animals and all that), but pure bloods really can only gain nutritional value from human blood.

So, Alasdair is a being that knows what happened to the vampire population one thousand years ago. He saw with his own eyes what it is that erased the history, culture and population of vampires. And he’s had to live with that for a millennium. Unable and unwilling to tell anyone, unable and unwilling to find peace in fear of forgetting, and unable and unwilling to move on. That’s why he sometimes does unreasonable things, and indulges in excessive blood drinking. He literally doesn’t know how to cope, and he refuses to let time erase what he has seen because he doesn’t want to forget it either. He cannot die easily, so he has decided to live on as the proof of the vampires that once existed a long time ago. And lord, is that a heavy burden.
