A long time ago, there was an event that repeated every few hundred years. The continent that humanity lived on—Eltrea—would come under attack from the forces of the Great Demon King from the continent of Demons. Eltrea, feeling the imminent attack, would gift one human from each kingdom on her soil with amazing mastery over magic to combat the armies of the Great Demon King. Ten heroes in total. The heroes would battle him and his forces, and would sacrifice their lives to create a ward powerful enough to hold him back for a few hundred years, and it would repeat again and again and again. However, three hundred years ago, when the Great Demon King broke the ward and was meant to attack again, he did not. He had grown tired of this fruitless endeavor.

He and the spirit of Eltrea stuck a peace deal. They would stop the constant battling and fighting, because it got them nowhere. To seal the deal, the Great Demon King let his son Live on the continent of man. The human kingdoms, according to their peace customs, chose for him a princess to wed and bestowed him the noble title of Duke of DeSidea. When they had a son, they named him Aeyron, and his father told the human kingdoms, “every heir that comes from the house of DeSidea must be wed to a princess from one of the human kingdoms. If you wish to maintain the peace my father and Eltrea created, then honor this requirement.” So came about the frightful tradition called The Nomination.
