Shall We Dance

Anyway, it was Sumner. Sumner was the one that had changed. So, remember how I said that Sumner is basically ignored and overlooked around the palace? He is a prince, but nobody really acknowledges him or depends on him because he does not have his mother present to carve out a space for him at court. As a result, he just never got involved with all that stuff. He instead found it more useful to remove himself from social situations, even if he secretly deeply craved it. This meant that he didnt attend parties, dinners, balls or meetings. For many of his siblings, they genuinely forgot that he even existed.

So imagine everyone’s shock when Sumner arrives at the ball, dressed formally with his hair pulled back, looking like an actual prince!!!! Everyone... is shockedddddd. Most of all, Sora. She’s like.... “Do my eyes deceive me my guy?” But no. It is true!! He moisturized his curls, got himself a suit that was in fashion and attended the ball. Segun was there and he was like, “.... who? Who is that? He has pink hair like a member of the royal family but like...” but when he realized it was Sumner... he was not happy to say the least.

He got even less happy when that little piece of sunshine walked up to his fiancée and asked her to dance. And he was just plain livid when that fiancée accepted the offer to dance. In front of EVERYONE.

In actuality, something very important happened at some point between Assorra and Segun, but I lowkey forgot to tell y’all. Basically, as the pressure of losing her identity was heightening, Assorra went to tea with Segun. And after a very short, vapid chat about nothing, she basically said, “Segun. Let’s drop this engagement.” She did this for two reasons. One, it’s something that the original Assorra would NEVER do. Even tho she was unhappy with the arrangement, she would never ask for it to be dissolved. Two, the point that broke Assorra originally was when Segun annulled the engagement at a ball, humiliating Assorra to the point of madness. In a way, it was a preemptive measure.

But ofc Segun is not an idiot. Despite his personal issues in regards to Assorra, he knows that she is the best person to cement his right to the throne. It isn’t spoken, but it is well-known in the royal family that anyone that receives the support of the Kwa Nishine Duchy is much more likely to inherit the crown (yes, her family is that fucking important. It’s why the original Asssorra was the way she was. Too many burdens on the shoulders of a child) So this request to annul the engagement actively threatens Segun’s claim to the throne.

So now u see why he isn’t very happy to see his fiancée that doesn’t want to be his fiancée anymore dancing with his freaking brother, who despite his lack or social presence is still a prince with a claim to the throne 💀
