So Adelaide has been adopted into the royal family right? She dislikes it but she has her own plans and she’s been working well for a few years unobstructed. What she didn’t know was that the first princess of the Sigrivian Kingdom (Seth’s sister Iris) was actually working on a huge project that would hopefully give her more credibility as a ruler for the throne while simultaneously trapping her brother Oswin. She had many diplomatic meetings with the Constantinian empire and was soothing their hostilities, and then finally she presented a peace pact that would be sealed with wedding two members of the royal households! She nominated her brother Oswin bc he hasn’t done anything that useful yet (and also bc if he marries a non-Sigrivian woman he will have no claim to the throne lol) and she was hoping that the eldest Constantinian king’s daughter called Edith would be put forth.

Problems arise however, when Edith—who is an incredibly rebellious and free-spirited woman— joined a convent to escape the obvious engagement that was brewing. The king was left with a predicament cos his youngest daughter was already betrothed to a powerful ducal house that was supporting the Constantinian Kingdom. He thought that all was lost, when he fortunately remembered that he technically had another daughter he gained recently 😈

Now, the Constantinian King is clearly playing with forces beyond his understanding. But he doesn’t know that and he allows this to happen. Meanwhile, Seth is minding his own business trying his best not to be involved in politics bc... no. He knows his brother is furious and is storming all around cos this is literally going to stop his claim to the throne, but Seth doesn’t really care. HOWEVER. He hears about who the Constantinian princess that will marry Oswin will be and how she was like (Note: at this point he doesn’t know Adelaide is the Archmage or that she was adopted by the royal family. All the times he’s met her she’s always looked and acted as a peasant so can’t rly blame him) but he could easily tell that if what was being said about this haphazard princess was true then the marriage would dissolve in less than a year. He still wasn’t gonna stick his nose in this business tho.

HOWEVER!!!! When he attended a party that would be the surprise engagement announcement, he met Adelaide. And worse yet, he heard her full title. The Archmage Supremus. SHE was the one going to marry his brother. In the span of a few minutes, Seth actually ran through everything that would happen should Adelaide be wed to his brother. Their personalities were so strong and unrelenting, and Adelaide cared so little of consequences that he KNEW that this marriage would end in the murder of one of them. Almost surely his brother. This would start a war like none before and while he wasn’t opposed to war, he most certainly didn’t want to lose a sibling in order to get one started. He KNEW that all this wasn’t just a hypothesis. With Adelaide’s personality, it was 99% possible. So he did something that he as Seth, would NEVER do.
