“It’s unfortunate that you were given such a position, Sister. You didn’t deserve it.”
A sinking feeling. Not of the body. Of the heart.
“So we’ll be taking back what’s ours.”
How did things go so wrong.
“Now go join your mother in Hell.”
And then all she could see was an endless, dark hole. An abyss. Before a bang, and a flash of light.
And then silence.
Celestria’s eyes flew open and she drew a panicked gasp as she violently roused. Panting, her senses struggling to recognize surroundings, she desperately began to find familiarity in what felt like a pool of unknown. The first thing that she could recognize was a man. A pale man sitting a little away from her. For a while, her mind was muddled before she noticed his features.
An unnaturally elongated smile. Eyes too clear and bright and big. Green hair sweeping off his temples.
“A demon.” She whispered in a raspy voice.
He looked up at her, and a chill ran down her spine. This demon was different. Fundamentally different.
“That I am, Celestria.”
“How do you know my name.”
“I asked Meta.”
She mustn’t waste a single moment. With all the focus and energy she could manage, she put herself together. No weakness. Not in front of a demon.
“I see. If you know my name, then may I ask for yours?”
“Of course. My name is Nedrie.”
“Good to meet you, Nedrie.”
“Good to meet you, Celestria.”
Her fears were confirmed. The way this new demon engaged in pleasantries and fluff human politeness when she was yet to meet a single demon that could understand human behavior...
“I can guess you’re the one that assisted me in my momentary weakness. I offer you my gratitude.” She did not sound the least bit grateful.
“No such thing, it was truly my honor.” What an ominous tone he spoke in.
“Then, I will be on my way back home. I was to return early today.”
“I don’t think that’s possible, Lady Voltaire.”
“Why not?” Celestria frowned ever so lightly. All Nedrie did was point his chin towards the window, and when Celestria saw, she stifled a gasp.
Night. It was night.
“We can’t send a lady off so late, Lady Voltaire. Please do stay the night.”
If she had the strength, Celestria would have laughed with stunned misery. What shit luck she had.
