Baltimore Comic-Con sketch dump, pt.1

Just got back from Baltimore Comic-Con, where I cranked out a fair number of con sketches during the show. Would’ve posted some of them here over the weekend, but I bricked my iPhone before the trip, so I was offline and phoneless the whole weekend. (The horror! The horror!) Did manage to get some wonky pics of the pieces with my tablet, though, so here are the first few. Note: Can’t do a image gallery post from the app version of Patreon, so I’ll have to post these as insert images. If I get a chance, might try to update this post later with gallery versions of the images via my PC.

First up, a joke I’ve used before, but it still amuses me, so what the heck:

Next up, an Emp sketch that skewed a tad wonky, as I can’t eyeball figure proportions all that well at the 11” x 14” size I use for con sketches:

And here’s a commissioner’s OC (original character):

And another OC:

Next up is not a con sketch, but rather a cover illo I drew long ago for an English translation of a Tsukasa Kotobuki manga:

I’ll post the other sketches later on; just thought I’d show these to you fine folks first, before I post ‘em elsewhere. Meanwhile, the struggle to unbrick my phone continues!

I know they don't make you much money in le comic format, but I really miss those two sometimes.

Matt Penn

11" X 14" for con sketches in this format; however, I ONLY use this size for such pieces, due to its Sharpie-marker friendliness.

Adam Warren

What scale do you usually draw on? Was always curious. And your sketches still are awesome as always!

Moondai

Ohhh, really love how you did Emp's mask! I didn't know about "Mechanical Man Blues" (don't ask me how, since I love Kotobuki) but I'm gonna buy it!

KranberriJam

The technique I use for con sketches is so completely different from my normal working approach that it rarely has any effect on my arm; thankfully, that was once again the case this weekend.

Adam Warren

Cute stuff, really. :-)

Eric

I always look forward to seeing your con art. How did your drawing arm hold out through all this?

The D-Wrek

Wonderful sketches! Thank you for sharing them! Good luck in the ritual of turning your brick into a phone. Always a trickier spell to cast versus going from phone to brick.

Tekkaman-James

Bloody 'ell, I have that very same issue of Mechanical Man Blues, did not realise you did the cover!
