Baltimore Comic-Con sketch dump, pt.2

And now, the rest of my sketches from last weekend’s fine show. (Along with the likewise great Heroes show in June, BCC is an almost starting throwback convention, given its spotlight on comics and creators as opposed to the TV and movie focus that most other supposed “comic conventions” inevitably shift towards.)

The piece above was a Halloween cosplay illo featuring Ninjette and Emp from Empowered. Yay!

Next up, a ROM SpaceKnight sketch, painfully pieced together from two utterly contradictory piece of reference. (Inadequate ref kinda comes with the territory when your smartphone is bricked, alas.)

Next up, a sketch of Evil Lyn from Masters of the Universe, drawn rather awkwardly in a small sketchbook. While I appreciate how quickly such wee illos can be produced, I still find it a bit challenging to draw satisfyingly in such a teeny space.

Time for a Black Canary, folks! I’m fond of this new-ish approach of handling highlights with lighter colored pencil over black, rather than laboriously struggling to render all the highlights in ink.

Next up, a furry OC (original character). Well, that’s furry in the Japanese sense of “human-looking cutie with animal ears and tail,” as opposed to the full-body furriness of the American approach, I suppose.

Next up, from the final hours of the con, a sketch of Priss and Sylvia from Bubblegum Crisis, drawn with almost no useful reference. Luckily, I can still remember how to draw the hardsuits from memory, though not without flaws.

And from the final minutes of the show, a hastily drawn Star Wars sketch cover featuring Kei and Yuri. (Note that I am not quite able to sketch the Slave Leia outfit from memory.)

And that’s it from Baltimore, folks! Hope to be back next year, as it’s one of my favorite conventions.

Tomorrow, I’m probably gonna give Failed-Project Friday a break and try out an entirely new type of Patreon post. Wheeee!

So awesome! I really really wanted to see you at this con but couldnt' get the time off! When do you post your 2020 schedule?

Moondai

Looks like it was a successful con for you. And yes, I agree, the pencil highlighting method looks great!

KranberriJam

Well, they must have some pretty good gyms in Eternia.

Yay! My piece ended up the headliner...not that it was a competition. Always great to see you come out here to the Mid Atlantic.

Javes001

Awesome as always, Sir. Looking forward to the 2020 cons and hopefully getting some more art from you. :)
