VINTAGE CON SKETCHES: 2001-2003 miscellaneous edition!

I'm slowly emptying out my hard drive's folder of scanned con sketches, so here's the next few commissions up, dating from 2001 through 2003. A few words:

That is, of course, "Bad Yuri"—and, by the end, the only Yuri—from my 1995 miniseries Dirty Pair: Fatal But Not Serious.

The "cloth pattern" is so pronounced on this Kiki's Delivery Service commission that I suspect it was drawn on a different form of paper than the usual linen-finish cardstock that I most often used for these pieces.

Two Miyazaki commissions in a row! Golly! Once again, the linen-finish pattern is so distinctive that either A) this was drawn on unusual art board, or B) this piece was scanned by a different scanner than my beloved Epson Perfection 4490. (Maybe that piece-of-crap Canon I once owned, which was godawful at capturing pencil tones.)

Pretty sure this rather buxom iteration of Urd from Oh My Goddess was photoreferenced from a famously soft 'n' zaftig Japanese gravure idol who was a big deal in the early 2000s, but danged if I can remember her name.

Holy crap, just burned 35-45 minutes on this g-d post. Yikes! (Damn commentaries are the critical timesuck, as I should've learned by now.)

MONDAY ON THIS HERE PATREON: More life drawings (and high res scans), as usual!

Thanks for the much-appreciated flurry of positive comments!

Wonderful Ghibli commissions!

Ruth and Darrin Sutherland

I always figured that the surviving Yuri was effectively a composite, brain of Good Yuri into body of Bad Yuri; there's some evidence for that(Bad Yuri had a head wound; Surviving Yuri didn't remember events, Bad Yuri's brain would be untrustworthy from mods). That also fits in with the usual rules that Kei and Yuri always succeed, always survive, and always have their missions end in chaos; with two Yuris, and one having the mission to kill Kei and Yuri, the only possible outcome is for each Yuri to half live, Bad Yuri to half succeed(she killed Yuri but not Kei), and the chaos to exponentiate(multiple suns exploding). This may mean there is some underlying extranatural mechanism(unconscious probability manipulation or something), and I suspect this is what Sleet was trying to prove.

Burninator

That Urd looks just as buxom as she should, no problem there! And Bad Yuri quoting MST3K is always a bonus.

Strypgia

That Urd is delightful. And this time, The Leather Jacket totally suits her!

Aidenke

These are great.

I've always been torn about the ending of SP: FBNS. On one hand, it is my favorite wtf twist ending of any Dirty Pair story. On the other hand, it violates an unspoken rule of the series, which is that neither Kei nor Yuri are ever seriously hurt. And, well... One of them DEFINITELY gets "hurt" in that one.

Mr. Neil

I'm sure we all appreciate the time you put in to commentary, I for one at least do! That Urd piece is really good I like how she renders in your style. Also "Bad, Bad, Bad, Warren senpai!" First image spoilers! (I'm kidding mostly, I'm sure your fanbase knows of at least the outcome of DP:FBNS by now, or they should have!)
