Behold, a cover illo that my buddy Ryan Kinnaird and I did for a sourcebook—Games of Divinity, it seems?—from the pen & paper RPG Exalted, probably back in the early 2000s or thereabouts; sorry, no time to look up the details right now (or later, TBH). Line art by me, color art and 3D background rendering(!) by Ryan.
To me, his piece is notably less successful than the later two Exalted covers I drew, as previously posted here and here. Problem is, folks, I was very badly burnt out at the time I did this piece, and just could not seem to produce an illustration that I found even remotely pleasing; an inked image that should've taken me a few days at most instead consumed most of a work week, if not two weeks. Ryan did a bang-up job of salvaging the piece, though.
Alas, I have no roughs or B&W work process scans for this cover. All that I could dig up was the rather low-resolution jpeg above, which dates back to my pre-DSL era of internet connection, when Ryan would have email me fairly dinky jpegs for approval due to the vagaries of my crappy dial-up. (Not that my modern-era, flaky AF DSL is any ball of fire, either.)
The second image is a scan from the published Exalted cover, but with some Photoshop-sketched arrows on it that seem to be indicating possible corrections of some sort... maybe?
I still have two more relatively recent Exalted B&W interior illos left to post here someday, but danged if I can find the files for 'em right now. Where could they be hiding? Did they get lost in a hard-drive transfer? Anyhoo, I'll keep on looking for 'em.
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Some kinda Distressed Damsels content for the $5+ tiers, though I'm not sure right now exactly what said content might be. Let's find out together, shall we?
