Behold, a few Vintage Con Sketches that were colored by my bud Ryan Kinnaird just for the hell of it! I shall now endeavor to dig up the B&W originals for these pieces (or photocopies thereof, more accurately) before this post goes up Friday morning, but can't guarantee that I'll find 'em in time; oh, the tension!
UPDATE: Found 'em!
Keiko and Seiko are characters from Kabuki: Scarab, the miniseries that creator David Mack wrote and my frequent collaborator Rick Mays did the art for. I used photoreference for their outfits, as you might be able to tell. (Or not.) Needless to say, folks, I did not possess Rick's highly developed skill at drawing Japanese people who actually look, well, Japanese.
Very neat color approach Ryan took on their coats, especially the shiny silver one worn by Seiko on the right. 2002 was very early on in my newfound "minimal nasal indication" facial-design approach, so the ladies' nostrils aren't quite up to snuff, alas. (Or "sniff," I suppose.)
I'm pretty sure I posted the Ryan-colored Dirty Pair commission here before, but I think I might not have posted the B&W original artwork back then. (If so, I couldn't dig up the file; I just uploaded a new scan from a photocopy of the piece.)
The hair and costume variations on Kei and Y**i are more of the random variations I would riff on whilst cranking out a bunch of otherwise boring & repetitive DP commissions.
NEXT MONDAY ON THIS HERE PATREON: Life drawings, as usual!
