VINTAGE CON SKETCHES: Mo' DP commissions, 1995-2012!

I'm a-clearin' out the pieces in my old CON SKETCHES folder alphabetically, so here's a grab-bag of Dirty Pair commissions lurking in the (ahem) D section, produced over a wide range of years.

A few words:

An inked 2003 piece based off an Adam Hughes Wonder Woman cover, as a study in emulating his inking approach—and also emulating his broad-shouldered approach to drawin' them ladies., it seems. (I likely widened the hips, though, as I have no time whatsoever for the narrow-hipped visual riff that he prefers for many of his female characters.)

Colors by Ryan Kinnaird, BTW, done just for the heck of it, I'd assume.

Above, a cellphone photo of a 2012 con sketch drawn during my first trip to Toronto for TCAF.  (I hope to return, someday, if I live long enough. *INSERT WHIMSICAL YET MORBID EMOJI HERE*)

The song that the Angels are dancing to is, of course, a reference to a genuinely amazing  Kyary Pamyu Pamyu video—and I don't use the tired, hackneyed superlative "amazing" lightly, believe me.

Above, a slightly wonky 2005 con sketch, with the dreaded "Mysteriously Intermittent Post-Millennial Torso Glitch" in full effect on Y**i's wasplike waist. Oh, well.

Now, brace yourselves for the last con sketch of this post, dating back to 1995:

Behold, the first and last time I would ever work a commission's (small-P) patron into a Dirty Pair sketch, because A) I mostly can't (and also really don't want to) draw resemblances, and B) even more so than a bajillion-odd "Bedamseled DP" commissioned pieces, this somehow felt like I was pimping out Kei & Y**i. My apologies if I've offended you, oh innocent(?) ladies who don't actually exist!

TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Mo' life drawings, as usual!

Love that use of shadows!

Ruth and Darrin Sutherland

That has more to do with 1995 Me (or even Present-Day Me) being unable to extrapolate different facial expressions from a single piece of photoref. (Yet another reason I avoid drawing resemblances!)

Adam Warren

Dude seems remarkably unmoved and unimpressed for having two topless Angels hugging him! At least it looks like the Angels are having a blast doing it.

Strypgia

My impression was that Kei and Yuri were meant to be pretty much physically identical.

For a second there I thought that was an evil version of Emp.

The Silver Socialist

Amusingly enough, a baddie in one of the DP pieces you've posted on the Patreon resembles, by sheer coincidence, a reasonably good likeness of me(well me + some technological enhancements and a serious workout routine). Guess the research interest in my genetic code(long story) went somewhere in the DPverse. Not the first time this sort of thing's happened: there's an NPC in an obscure Taiwanese MMO who looks a good bit like me and shares my full name.

Burninator

Oh, nice! Glad to hear you're a capital-P Patron, too. And yeahp, I've done very, very few resemblance-based pieces in the decades since, unless I had no other choice in the matter...

My commission!!! It made it onto the internet!! I do remember you telling me when you handed it over that this was the LAST time you would ever do this cause you hated having to reference a rl person. Humerous now because of your real life reference Monday. It made me feel oddly proud that I got such a original piece at the time. I promise all I did was pose for a hug with them ...I'm no paste pot pete..:P

Warren Beall

Was Yuri always quite so much... THICKER than Kei? Do they have canon weights? I always thought of both of them as being pretty skinny!
