Regarding today's Empowered vol.8 page on the webcomic serialization, I just happened to have a fairly exhaustive set of photos saved on my phone that documented pretty much every step in the page's production (recorded back in January 2013).
Alas, I don't have enough time left to fully annotate the lengthy working process, as just relaying the pics from my phone to the Hot New(ish) PC and prepping 'em for this post took substantially longer than I anticipated. I think the stages should be reasonably clear, though.
A few words:
*Note that I not only have to mask off finished panels or word balloons to prevent smudging, but I even have to mask off areas of panels I'm currently working on to avoid similar issues.
*I often tape printouts of key earlier pages from Empowered to my drawing table as reference for the page(s) I'm currently working on, as seen with the Hardkore close-up.
*I used H lead pencils for tracing and underdrawing; 5B or 6B leads for the primary linework; HB leads for lighter shading (as, again, seen in the Hardkore close-up); Sharpies for the panel gutters and some sound FX; and, circa 2013 at least, Micron Pigma pens for inked details. (I later switched over the far superior PITT Artist Pen for such work.)
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: For the $5 Patron tiers and higher, more "damsel in distress" content; might be recent Clip Studio Paint sketch sets based on art requests, or perhaps some commissioned comic pages from the bygone days of yore.
