Work stages on D&D birthday gift sketch of dwarf barbarian

Today, I'm breaking the Friday format of Vintage Con Sketch to show the work stages for a piece fresh off the drawing table created in my modern-day, two-color con sketch format. This one's another birthday gift for one of the players in my on-and-off D&D campaign dating back to the end of 2019 (even though he's actually running a Dragonborn sorcerer in the current campaign).

I was inspired by the idea of a dwarf barbarian enough to add another example of the race/class combo in my nascent project Party of Two, but ol' Fenrir, here, is an entirely different character than Party's short but brawny hero. No, really!

Anyhoo, I'm too short on time this workday to add any more commentary, so I hope the gallery of work-stage images above speaks for itself. (Some g-d glitch in the iPad photo/ Photoshop interaction leads to that maddening rotation issue seen in the pencils; I should've just scanned the final piece's stages directly, TBH. Oh, well.)

MONDAY ON THIS HERE PATREON: Time for more life drawings, as usual!

Really love seeing the work stages on your pieces.

Nice to see the black and white before you went to color.

Nice work! I love that he has a baby Owlbear with him. Are you familiar with the Baby Bestiary from Metal Weave Games? It’s an art book/guide book for adding baby beasts into your RPGs.
