DESIGN TUESDAY: Character designs from that TITANic project, pt.2, plus BGC bonus!

This month's Design Tuesdays feature will cover my initial character designs for the 1997 DC Comics Prestige Format (ooh!) one-shot Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone. Today, we're tackling the character Hikarimono (Japanese for "being of light" IIRC), nicknamed "Dead Prettyboy" as his superhero name by Jamadagni.

Can't say for sure, but I think his design was primarily influenced by Dark Schneider from Kazushi Hagiwara's manga Bastard!!, vol.14 of which was a key inspiration for the more apocalyptic action scenes in Titans: SPS.

Below, I'm rounding out this post with a recently unearthed design sheet from 1994's Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal, featuring a dude with a broadly similar hairstyle:

This fella's design was clearly based on l'oeuvre de Kenichi Sonoda, as you would expect on a BGC miniseries. (In case you haven't read Grand Mal, he's one of two Genom "intellectual assets" created by the same kinda-sorta "uploading" process that created Sylia Stingray in my slightly variant take on BGC continuity.)

Next time around, we check in on the Titans character named after my Kubert School roommate!

TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Time for the $5+ Patron tiers to get their weekly dose of damsel in distress imagery with the next pages from "Dandelion Hair vs. Rather Generic Jungle Girl."

I really liked the 'intellectual asset' idea for explaining GENOM's rise.

Did anyone ever coin the term "manga mullet" ??
