This month's Design Tuesdays feature is covering my initial character designs for the 1997 DC Comics Prestige Format (ooh!) one-shot Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone.
This time around, we're featuring my sketches for the "Clade warbeasts" that Jamadagni and crew wind up battling. A few quick words about 'em:

In fact, there was no script for the book as such other than a dialogue & sound FX-only script for the letterer, so I'm not sure why I said this beastie had a "script name." As with all my writer/artist work, I never bother with a full (written) script for myself, instead working solely from roughs and layouts as almost all mangaka do—though I was using this approach long before I ever read any manga or knew how Japanese creators worked.

"Vasquez" after the smartgunner from Aliens, of course.

I learned to read from (very, very wordy) early-70s Marvel reprints of old cowboy comics, hence the Two-Gun Kid reference.

"Hungryman" because this is the warbeast that opens up its digestive system to engulf Gabrielle (in a riff loosely derived from the wacky digestive shenanigans of sea cucumbers).

"Feed bag" because of the placement of the weapon underslung 'neath its head.
And that's it for Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone designs, folks. Down the road, I'll likely show more work from the project, but I'm all outta these particular sketches.
I'll likely move on to posting another project's designs in January, but next Tuesday will probably be an end-of-month exclusive post for the higher tiers (well, maybe).
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: Time for the $5+ Patron tiers to get their weekly dose of damsel in distress imagery with the next set of pages from "Dandelion Hair vs. Rather Generic Jungle Girl."
