Live-action EMPOWERED casting call kickoff!

Whilst trying to think of something interactive to put up on this here Patreon during my upcoming week off from artwork-based posts, I  thought, "Why not get some kinda Empowered casting-call dealie a-rolling in the meantime?"

For the record, nary a nibble of interest in optioning Empowered has been expressed anywhere since a (luckily) failed MTV pitch 5 or 6 years ago, nor do I much give a crap any more. Still, I get the impression that readers like to discuss casting calls along these lines, as I've periodically seen actors and actresses suggested in webcomic comments and even here on the ol' Patreon from time to time.

While animation would, I think, be an easier way to adapt Empowered, for the purposes of this post let's imagine a (not-gonna-happen) live-action version of the property.

What I'd like to do is have you Big(ger) Spenders make casting-call nominations in initial posts, then I'll pick out 10 or so selections out of those suggestions and put 'em in a poll open to all Patrons. Then, at some point down the road, I'll try to work in an art-req sketch-set image featuring the winning actor in Empowered-character costume. Sound viable? Hope so!

For the record (again), I got this idea in part after watching a blonde-dyed Katherine Langford (mainly known for 13 Reasons Why, I gather) as the lead character in the 2020 flick Spontaneous, and thinking she could be good reference for Emp. (In fact, I'll likely download the movie and take some screencaps of her facial expressions for future life-drawing practice.)

Wellp, let's start things off by soliciting your suggestions for an actress who could play Elissa Megan Powers. (I'll work my way through the rest of the cast in months to come.) Put up a name or two in the comments below, and let's get this casting call underway!

UPDATE: BTW, feel free to second someone else's suggestion if you find the actress choice to be especially appropriate, okay? (That'll help me select which names make the cut for the eventual poll.)

Comments

Milana Vayntrub, from the Att commercials and so much more.

Taran

Chloe Grace Moretz.

WulfMan72

Mia Malkova? What? She technically an actress, she has the body type and she has experience with distress situations.

romain grolleau

well it's not impossible to make if you want to try and make the film. look at kung furry , all of that was green screen and still look awesome.

Jack Hallows

Emily Browning definitely has the face for EMP.

Seconding K.D. Bryan on Amanda Seyfried, she’s the actress I’ve always pictured in the (hypothetical) role. She may be a little too old for it now at 37, but since this isn’t a real movie we can jump in the Wayback Machine and cast her from 2009. Also seconding your own casting of Spontaneous Katherine Langford, she’s even got the softer figure of modern Emp. And just to add a fresh name to the mix, I’ll also say Lili Reinhart from Riverdale.

David Ray

I think Kathryn Newton from Map of Tiny Perfect Things would be a good fit for Emp

Sad to say that I'm more of an animation fan than live-action these days, so my views on this probably don't mean a lot. Hope y'all have fun, though!

Lex of Excel

Early 2000s Thora Birch would be a good fit for Emp, in my opinion. She has the build and the acting chops.

Dan B

Such a cool idea! She's not an actress, but there's an awesome retired British glamour model named Jodie Gasson who is almost exactly what I imagine Emp would look like in real life (SFW-ish photo: https://img.web-starlets.com/2014/12/11/Jodie-Gasson-8.jpg). Emilia Clarke I guess if we have to stick with actresses.

JoJack86

Thanks!

K. D. Bryan

I'd say early career Hayley Atwell (circa The Line of Beauty) would be a good fit but honestly it's a tough casting call!

J.

Maika Monroe would be my top pick. And not solely because of her experience as a be-damseled actress in Tau and Villains.

andrew

Early 2000s Jessica Biel had the backside for it, and she can damn well act.

Michael Campen

I know we're only doing Emp now, but I love Matt Berry for the Demonwulf

Richard Franklin

Amanda Seyfried has always been whom I've pictured for Emp, especially after seeing her in Chloe, but if we're going for a younger actress, Dove Cameron might work. Desmond Chiam from Falcon and The Winter Soldier would make an excellent Thugboy (http://www.mynewplaidpants.com/2019/12/good-morning-gratuitous-desmond-chiam.html). Matt Berry for the voice of The Caged Demonwulf, for sure. I'll have to think on Ninjette and Sistah Spooky. ETA: I missed the bit where we were only doing Emp, sorry!

K. D. Bryan

Excellent choice

The Silver Socialist

It'd be hard to cast an already established Hollywood actress as Empowered. Hollywood still almost exclusively hires absurdly thin women.

My obvious choice : Riddle. ( https://twitter.com/ridd1e?s=21 ) https://www.deviantart.com/riddle1/art/Empowered-150930517
