DISTRESSED DAMSELS: 1999-vintage LILY sketch sets!

Woo hoo! We're rolling with every-weekday posting through the end of April, folks! (Plus, I figured I needed to get some DiD posts up ASAP, after a sudden run of $5-tier Patrons cancelling their pledges.)

Courtesy of a generous friend from back in the day, here are scans of some loose sketch sets of Dirty Pair's Yu-- nay, Lily in distress drawn between comic pages at some point in the 90s, judging by the costumes and chara designs. (My friend was a serious "Lily in distress" fan, so you can expect to see more such sets along these lines.)

A few words:

Lotta "hands tied in front" imagery in these sets, which I hope DiD fans can tolerate, however grudgingly.

Interestingly, the presence of the high boots and the triangles on the back of Lily's gloves suggests that this was a set originally sketched back circa 1995 or so during the Dirty Pair: Fatal but not Serious era, then finished or reworked at some point with late-90s Lily hair and updated costume. The paper's surface is visibly worn, suggesting that the set was kicking around as rough, unfinished sketches for a few years before I redrew it.

Another reworked set, judging by the visibly worn paper and some erased spots. I believe that some kinda narrative was involved with this set, but I've long since forgotten what that might be.

Another set redrawn with late-90s costume and chara designs, looks like. Pretty sure that was a developmental sketch set for an unfinished "Shasti vs. Rose & Lily" comic which I miiiight be able to dig up down the road, as I've glimpsed a few random photocopied pages from it amidst my piles of art files.

The final sketch set is much more recent, likely dating to the early 2000s, and probably represents some kind of short-lived revisitation of the "DP vs. Troops" storyline (mostly) serialized here:

A word of explanation: When I was writing and drawing full-time, I rarely felt like I had enough free time to do full-on commissioned sketches, whether DiD or not; howeva, I could always knock out quick, loose sketch sets like these between comic panels or pages without feeling like I was taking time away from my "real job." (Luckily, I found some supporters who appreciated such unfinished material.)

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Time for s'more Failed-Project Friday wackiness, I'd say!

Lot of DiD potential in Shasti capturing them, alright.

I don't mind the hands in front stuff, your work is so brilliant!

Greg

I'm on the $20 tier, but yes, please post more DiD content.
