Behold, a text piece of yore that might be wildly off-base!!

Wellp, desperate times call for desperate measures as I'm running quite far behind on Patreon posts, and had to tap one of my few remaining "emergency options" for a quick post. Lordy loo!

Anyhoo, above is the forward I wrote for the 2006 book Mangaka America: Manga by America's Hottest Artists by Will Staehle and Tania Del Rio (for Steelriver Studio LLC). Note that I briefly glanced at the book's reviews at that Amazon link and was immediately rewarded by the second review bitching about how long said forward dragged on; that's why "don't read the g-d reviews" is always a sound policy, folks.

Must admit, I barely glanced at what 2006 Me wrote for the piece while I was processing the PDFs into jpegs via Photoshop, so it's entirely possible that I was wildly off-base on the various assumptions I posited willy-nilly back in those halcyon days of the mid-2000s. (I did spot a line about how the artists featured in the book might be the last hope of the American comics field, which seems like a rather aggressive and dramatic flourish on my part.)

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Not sure at the moment as to exactly what's coming up in the next M/W/F slot, TBH. Let's find out together, shall we? UPDATE: Ehh, probably something in the Distressed Damsels vein, such as a rejected commission rough I'm working up as a CSP brush test today.

Very Cool Buddy!

Greg

Interesting piece, thanks! Fun fact: I recognized one of the artists you mentioned there, not from her comics work but from her writing online about the job she took dressing up as unlicensed Disney princesses for children's birthday parties after the comic work dried up.
