Design sketchbook from 2002 DIRTY PAIR statue!

The highlight of Dark Horse's rather ill-fated Dirty Pair merchandise effort was the fine statue set, as detailed in this 2002-era solicitation copy:

Genetically enhanced super-babes Kei and Y*ri are always in trouble,  especially when their adventures are created by American "manga" artist  Adam Warren! We have enlisted two great talents-- the aforementioned Mr.  Warren and the talented folks at Big Chief studios to create the  niftiest Dirty Pair collectible yet: a fully-detailed polyresin  sculpture. Depicting the dynamite duo in an animated action pose, this  prepainted statue will enhance any statue collector or comic fan's  mantlepiece or bookshelf. Measuring approximately 10" high on a sculpted  base, the piece comes packaged in a full-color collector's box. A black  & white sketchbook showing Adam Warren's roughs is included.

And here are dem aforementioned roughs:

An earlier pose:

A clearer view of my waaaaaay-too-ambitious original idea for the statue base:

I probably drew many, many more figure roughs than the ones featured here, but they're buried in my direly disorganized archives; mayhaps I'll stumble across them someday down the road whilst scratching out future posts.

Some gun sketches:

"This is a lense"? Mysterious!

The booklet closes out with a pretty neat silhouette shot of the Angels:

NEXT TIME ON THIS HERE PATREON: Wellp, just burned off one of my few remaining emergency reserve posts, so who knows what's coming up on Friday? (Ehh, probably something in the Distressed Damsels vein for the $5+ Patron tiers.)

Thanks for posting the sketchbook, as mine did not come with it. But totally made up for by you signing the base! :D

Me too, it's right over there -->>

I have my statue on display in my library room. It really looks better than most comic statues I’ve ever seen.

Other way around, as (IIRC) the action figures were derived from the statues and, ah, did NOT work out quite as well.

Adam Warren

Hopefully some cool posts about the stand alone action figures are coming as well

"This is a lense"... maybe it could've been mistaken for an eyeball ??

I love my statue of the girls to bits, along with the shot glasses and the zippo lighter, I fanboyed every single item I could get my mits on at the time. Which was no mean feat, with the internet in its infancy and being secluded in deepest darkest Devon in the uk! Tools several months to arrive at my long defunct comic book store in the nearest major city.

Huh, not having seen the statue in person, and seeing that the photos looked kinda similar, I always thought that the statue was essentially just the action figures posed together.

To put it mildly, the statue set is vastly superior to the action figures, which I wasn't consulted on. (Then again, not sure what I would've said if they HAD consulted me, other than maybe "Uh, can we try again?")

Sim Hell and Plague of Angels, my first Lovely Angels stories. Brings back memories...

I just found the figures again mint on card. I bought them when they first came out after kids and several moves I had lost their accessories.

Thanks for posting this, I almost bought a statue on Ebay for entirely too much money (Most of the dealers want ~$200 for one with the sketchbook) in order to get a copy of this despite already owning the Kei and Yuri figures. Out of the merch line, in my experience, the T Shirts are considerably more expensive (usually like $300 a pop, and for some reason they mostly ship from Japan; I think they might have been a fashion trend at some point, evidence being the startling price and that Kendall Jenner wore one in a paparazzi photo once), while the shot glasses and Zippo are harder to find (they rarely show up on Ebay and I don't have either ATM; my Kei got swiped by cleaners and I've always been outbid on the Zippo).

Speaking as someone who teaches a couple weeks on optics each semester, "lense" is a very hard spelling error to avoid.
