2018-09-17 23:21:38 +0000 UTCWhen I took American Studies, the issue of cultural erasure tended to lend itself to the allusion that western colonizers have for lack of a better word a perverted sense of cultural heritage -- or just simply lack thereof. I sense that the process itself involving acquisition of others' land and the objectifying nature of assimilation in the name of civil development does paint quite a picture. Not entirely certain what that entails for John at the end, but it seems rather catastrophic for him.

2018-09-17 00:50:30 +0000 UTCThere's definitely more to "flourishing" than happiness. At the same time, I think that Huxley underestimates the importance of happiness. Also, Sherlock is adorable. Has he tried to run away from home again or is he happy where he is? And what does he strive for? Also, "The Computer is your friend. The Computer wants you to be happy. Happiness is mandatory. Failure to be happy is treason. Treason is punishable by summary execution."
