Captain Blood - Faith, I'll be humouring ye!

I was determined to get this filmed before the plastering man comes to knock chunks off the walls, and by gum I have managed it! It's going to be pretty noisy here for the next week or so though, pray wish me good earplugs, or maybe wish me a nice cafe somewhere nearby, should the hammering get too much :D

Hope you enjoy the video!

PS: $5+ Patrons, I will see you on the 18th May, where I have a proposition for you...

Hope your wall chunks got knocked off safely!

It could perhaps be argued that it takes more skill to pretend to hit someone (come close but miss) than it does to actually hit someone. However I also concede the point about learning and repeating a choregraphed sequence of moves vs improvising and responding to an unpredictable opponent. My preference is always to exterminate them at range before they close to melee distance. Another film to add to your list of possible fight reviews would be "Solomon Kane". During the fight at the end, one of the characters is on fire. Apparently while the gel he wore stopped him from getting directly burnt he still experienced the heat from the fire so they had to film in short bursts with him being extinguished between takes. Also being on fire severely limited his ability to see. During one take the main actor got the sequence wrong and attacked the wrong side, the fight coordinator just calmly reached out and grabbed his hand mere inches from being impaled and waggled his finger at the actor and continued the sequence (all while being on fire).

Any chance of doing "The Great Race"? It has two sword fights -- one of which features Natalie Wood vs. Tony Curtis where Ms. Wood is supposedly the Women's International Champion whom Curtis defeats with little effort. The one between Tony Curtis and Ross Martin is much longer and features both foils AND sabers. I suspect that one involves a lot of "sword sharpening".

Wasn't that the title of the Wilkinson Sword Advert?

1) I read those two pages you showed, thanks it was interesting on the history. 2) My gut instinct usually leads me to one of two types of trouble, but it does it consistently. Observing others I've a lot of respect for gut instinct and I assume others know best how to respond to their gut instincts. 3) Believe it or not but I did a proper fencing fight for a ballet (Sleeping Beauty) in 1988, there was no knife sharpening involved. (Me and a friend from fencing club for mum's ballet school's annual show). 4) The number of one liners you manage to fit in continues to amaze, I look forward to watching again just to try and see them all. 5) Any plans the next review of a movie with buckling of swashes? Thanks again.

I like the way you think, but they are sadly deficient in caffinated or similar beverages.

Meh, enemies to lovers. Give me frenemies with benefits!

That Yes, Minister clip was so unexpected and perfect it made me grin!

A library is also a lovely place to hide from noise, people, and any non-literary distractions.

Cassandra

Good luck. Perhaps you can be a Caroline and write a novel in the cafe?

I will always vote for Tyrone Power as a fencer. If you'd like, I would suggest 'The Black Swan' to see him as a pirate.

I do love me swashbuckling adventures! With a helpful visual assistant. What fun. 💓 I think opting for a nice cafe would be the most "pleasant" option, to get away from the various construction noises, dust and debris. Always trust your gut with regards to people or situations. And finally, for those who don't understand pretending to hit people for theatrical purposes, will stick around long enough to learn what the difference is between real and pretend. 🙄 Keep channeling your inner teacher.
