However, it turns out that when I made the decision to increase my hours at the hospital, I selfishly forgot to take into account that I’m currently depending on my elderly aunt (with type 1 diabetes and asthma) to let me live in her house so I can afford to keep going to school.
When I told her that I was taking care of confirmed covid-19 patients, AND that the hospital wasn’t providing anyone with necessary PPE, she got (understandably) upset at me for second-hand exposing her to danger and told me I either had to quit my job or find somewhere else to live. No amount of self-quarantine measures made her ok with me continuing to do this job. I even asked my manager if I could bring in a sleeping bag and just sleep on the floor somewhere in one of the hospital buildings, but that was flat out declined.
Leaving that job was the right thing to do given how much danger it put my aunt in. I’m quarantined to my room for the next 14 days because I was exposed to the virus when I had to reuse a dirty mask with a covid-19 patient several times, so I may as well continue drawing comics.
I thought it was important to be up front with all this and to let everyone know that the regular once a month comic schedule is back on. Please stay safe, everyone. Take this seriously and take appropriate safety measures. Watching firsthand as people die from this has left me a bit shaken.
