Sales Tax Poll (Please let me know what you think.)

Hey everybody!

Some laws changed and now sales tax is being added to tiers of patreon pledges that have tangible goods as rewards (for my current set up that's anyone donating $5 or more). I'm not sure what to do about this and would love to know your feelings on it. Below is a more detailed summery that Patreon has provided me:

"I wanted to give you an update on some changes that we’ll be seeing which may affect some of your pledges. Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st.
Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents.
Whether or not you will be charged sales tax depends on your location, and what is considered taxable there. Not every pledge is taxable, not all benefits are taxable in every location, and sometimes only a fraction of a pledge will be taxable. The money that Patreon collects as a result of these laws are paid directly to local governments.
If you’re in a location where sales tax will be required, you should expect to receive an email from Patreon with more information about this very soon, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of these changes way ahead of July 1st when they go into effect.
If you have questions, you should be able to find answers here . If you still have questions, the best place to get an answer is from Patreon’s customer support team, here . "

As I understand it, lots of you support many different creators here so this extra cost might really start to add up fast. Something I could do to to avoid this is to stop offering tangible goods and just continue to do "Thank you"s and give out only digital goods like PDF copies of the book and things like that.

Before I make any changes though I would like to know your thoughts and preferences. Below is a poll to help me gather that information.

Thank you all again for your support. It has changed my life and gotten me through some of my most difficult times. I hope to manage this change in a way that is smooth for as many people as possible and I completely understand if you have to stop donating for any reason. Times are really hard right now for everyone and I really want you all to be ok. <3

Best wishes!

If I'm reading your tiers correctly, the physical rewards are a one-time thank you gift, right?

I'm happy to support no matter what. Hope you're staying safe and well at this time.

I have yet to receive anything since I started pledging but I’ll keep supporting I don’t mind.

I like the idea of both of the ideas presented. Have seperate tiers for those who want to keep giving the same amount without the physical rewards, and also maybe give discount codes to your store? Best of both worlds?

Lunayami

That's what I was thinking. Just point patrons to your store and provide some small discount as a thank you.

How about once a month or every 2 month you do a little fanart. You post sugestion like 2-4 idea and let us chose witch one we all want. Even chibi fine. But i got no complain to add the taxes. I did not even know the takes were not already includ lol.

Pass the buck imo.... When you buy a tv.....best buy doesn't eat the tax. They pass it on and no one complains. Seems like it is fair you get to do the same.

Instead of gifting things, provide a free sticker with your first purchase and a discount code for your store. Do not lose financial momentum because of externalities! Your work is worth it! <3

Maybe create separate tiers for physical, digital, and physical +digital? This would be more work for you obviously but it is an idea
