Artificial Intelligence - Will A.I. replace Artists?

I recently reported on Twitter that Artwork I created was being stolen and just sloppily recreated through an A.I. It's not the first time that happened and it will not be the last time. I'm sure bigger Artists have to see this on a daily basis.

I've got many interesting viewpoints under that Tweet and since Twitter doesn't let me

ramble on and on about things, I think it's time to write another blog article here regarding my thoughts on A.I.

Personally, I find Artificial Intelligence intriguing. I like what can be done with it when used as an assisting medium. Helping in programming, faster searches for answers, and well...I guess you can use it for your math homework?

I wonder if there was any controversy when calculators got invented. Well, calculators don't do the whole progress for you, and aren't allmighty either. You need to know what you do to make a calculator work for you. And here's where A.I. changes things.

Sure, to generate a picture, you need to know how to use prompts correctly, you have to recreate Images multiple times and enhance them until they look good and maybe that can take a while. But there is one difference. Experience.

A beginner Artist can sit 300 Hours on an Illustration. After a certain amount of time passes, the Illustration won't change significantly anymore. You won't get better. You may have to train years, maybe decades to get to that point where A.I. is right now, the point where A.I can generate something on a very high level in seconds.

But here's why I think, A.I. will not replace Artists and the Art they create nor will it really steal any worth from high quality Artwork drawn by humans. Even if no one regulates it, if there will never be rules for A.I. use, if it's abused to steal, transform and sell Art, it will not win.

Let me reach back a bit and say what I think about the current state of Humanity and how the Entertainment Industry is one of, if not the best paid market in the world.

We live in a world where even kids as old as 6-7 years can get depressed, burned out,

suffer from extreme stress and even show symptoms similar to a midlife crisis. Why that happens should be clear. Society as a whole really pushes us to deliver.

Just passing school isn't enough anymore, you should study, and even then you may not get an employment. The world is connected, and while that's a good thing, now you get to feel sad when something happens literally on the other side of the world, because now you're part of it. People tell you how you should travel, eat, behave and treat others. The more you know, the more you will suffer, because it's good to know more, to get educated, but it also shows you how wrong you've been living. There's so much more, but I guess you understand.

How do people combat this load of burdensome info? Entertainment. Distractions and diversions. Some will take drugs, other will use other means of entertainment. A.I is not at that point yet, but in the future, it will be used to create more means of Entertainment. Today it's Art, but in a few years it will create complete Anime, Games, Movies and further along the line it will be able to invent completely new things.

Speaking about economy, those with money will subsidize A.I. to the maximum. They want A.I. as unregulated as possible because it can print out money. Why commission an Artist, when A.I. can do perfect Artworks for 10% of the price in way less time? People will be able to see and buy Art for a cheap price because it can be endlessly generated. But it's cheaply made, even if it can look good.

But that's not where it ends. I want to make a sloppy comparison to the food industry.

You can get Meat, fruit, vegetables, nearly anything for way cheaper than it should be. It's extra cheap so most people can somehow afford it. But quality food does also exist and it's more expensive then ever.

The market will soon become saturated with A.I. art, and people will grow tired of it. Those that buy cheap Art would not have bought your quality Art in the first place, because they don't have the money and most likely don't even understand Art.

With an even more saturated market it will get harder to be noticed, but also people will have an even stronger connection to a human artist than before, because they now know, how much more worth that is.

Many of that is of course speculation, but seeing how supportive actual people are of Art, it does make sense. Like mentioned at the beginning of this, I see the most potential of A.I. as a companionpiece, helping to create, while you do the creative part, like giving you better managment over layers, helping to remember and choosing the right painting tool, reverting back to a certain step and even giving you ideas that YOU will work out. But we'll only see how that develops in the future.

P.S.: ....I'm safe anyway because A.I. sucks at drawing feet, AHAHAHAHA....

私は最近ツイッターで、私が制作したアートワークが盗まれ、A.I.を使って杜撰に再現されていることを報告した。もっと大きなアーティストたちは、日常的にこのような目に遭っているはずだ。

このツイートには興味深い視点がたくさんある。

というわけで、A.I.に関する私の考えについて、もうひとつブログ記事を書くことにしよう。

個人的には、人工知能には興味をそそられる。人工知能を補助的な媒体として使うことで、何ができるかが好きだ。プログラミングの手助けになるし、答えの検索も速くなる。

電卓が発明されたとき、何か論争があっただろうか。まあ、電卓はあなたのためにすべての進歩をしてくれるわけではないし、オールマイティでもない。電卓を自分のために使うには、自分が何をすべきかを知る必要がある。そして、ここでA.I.が状況を変える。

確かに、画像を生成するには、プロンプトを正しく使う方法を知る必要があるし、画像を何度も作り直して、見栄えが良くなるまで補正しなければならない。しかし、1つだけ違いがある。経験だ。

初心者のアーティストが1つのイラストに300時間かけることもある。ある一定の時間が過ぎると、イラストレーションはもう大きくは変わりません。上達はしない。A.I.が今いる地点、つまりA.I.が数秒で非常に高いレベルのものを生み出せる地点に到達するには、何年も、何十年も訓練しなければならないかもしれない。

しかし、私が思うに、A.I.がアーティストや彼らが創り出すアートに取って代わることはないだろうし、人間が描く質の高いアートワークから価値を奪うこともないだろう。たとえ誰もA.I.を規制しないとしても、A.I.の使用にルールが存在しないとしても、それがアートを盗み、変形させ、販売するために悪用されるのであれば、A.I.は勝てないだろう。

人類の現状について、そしてエンターテインメント産業が世界で最も給料の良い市場とは言えないまでも、そのひとつであることについて、私がどう考えているかを少し振り返って述べてみたい。

私たちは、6～7歳の子供たちでさえうつ病になったり、燃え尽きたり、極度のストレスに苦しんだり、中年病と同じような症状を示したりするような世の中に生きている、

極度のストレスに悩まされ、中年の危機のような症状を示すことさえある。なぜそうなるのかは明らかだろう。社会全体が、私たちに成果を出すよう強く求めているのだ。

学校に合格するだけではもう十分ではなく、勉強しなければならないし、それでも就職できるとは限らない。世界はつながっていて、それはいいことだが、文字通り地球の裏側で何かが起こったときに悲しい気持ちになる。人々は、あなたがどのように旅行し、食事をし、行動し、他人と接するべきかを教えてくれる。知れば知るほど、苦しむことになる。なぜなら、より多くを知り、教養を身につけることは良いことだが、それは同時に、自分がいかに間違った生き方をしてきたかを教えてくれるからだ。他にもたくさんあるけれど、理解してもらえたと思う。

この負担の大きい情報に、人々はどう立ち向かうのか？娯楽。気晴らしや転換。ある人は麻薬を服用し、ある人は他の娯楽手段を使うだろう。A.I.はまだそのような段階にはないが、将来的には、より多くの娯楽を生み出すために使われるようになるだろう。現在はアートだが、数年後には完全なアニメ、ゲーム、映画、さらにその先には、まったく新しいものを発明できるようになるだろう。

経済について言えば、お金を持っている人たちはA.I.に最大限の補助金を出すだろう。A.I.はお金を印刷することができるため、彼らはできるだけ規制のないA.I.を望んでいる。A.I.が10％の値段で完璧な作品を短時間で作れるのに、なぜアーティストに依頼するのか？A.I.は無限に生成することができるので、人々は安い値段でアートを見たり買ったりすることができる。しかし、見栄えはよくても安っぽい。

しかし、そこで終わりではありません。食品業界と比較してみたい。

肉、果物、野菜、ほとんど何でも必要以上に安く手に入る。特別に安いので、ほとんどの人はどうにかそれを買うことができる。しかし、質の高い食品も存在し、それはかつてないほど高価になっている。

市場はすぐにA.I.アートで飽和状態になり、人々はそれに飽きるだろう。安いアートを買う人は、そもそもあなたのクオリティの高いアートを買わなかっただろう。

市場がさらに飽和状態になれば、注目されることは難しくなるだろうが、同時に、人々は人間のアーティストと以前よりもさらに強いつながりを持つようになるだろう。

もちろん、その多くは憶測に過ぎないが、実際の人々がどれほどアートを支持しているかを見れば、それは理にかなっている。冒頭で述べたように、私はA.I.の最も大きな可能性を、あなたが創造的な部分を行っている間、創作を手助けするコンパニオンピースとして見ている。例えば、レイヤーの管理をより良くしてくれたり、適切なペインティングツールを覚えて選択する手助けをしてくれたり、あるステップに戻したり、さらにはあなたが解決するアイデアを与えてくれたりする。しかし、それが今後どのように発展していくかは、これから見ていくしかない。

追伸：......A.I.は足を描くのが下手なので、私はとにかく安全です、アハハハハ......。
