Patron's Choice Announcement

Hey folks!

So, I had an idea - and I kind of want to test the waters to see if you all are okay with it.

For one month - I'd like to flip roles for the Patron's Choice. That means $1 and $5 tiers, you all will be submitting the ideas, and getting that imagination moving, and $10 tier, you guys will be the only people who get to vote on what comes out.

This'll mean for one month, we'll have a ton of ideas from people who don't usually get to submit, with a small number of votes deciding which one comes through.

What do you guys think? Does this sound like a fun idea to shake things up? Or is this something I should definitely not do?

Comments

I agree. Patreon doesn't have anything that allows extra votes, so if I did that, I'd have to have people manually send in votes and tally them, which wouldn't be a fun time. I will think about it some, if I do go forward with it, I am certain I won't make anyone lose anything, even for a month. (That's been heard loud and clear :D )

Yeah, saying this as someone who only pledges one dollar a month, definitely don't make your 10 dollar tier lose anything, even for just one month. I would even consider letting them keep some sort of "advantage" in the voting process for the month you do this (if you do this) and their vote counts as 2 or something, if patreon even allows that. Always remember, when doing things like this, that people like to gain things, but they hate to lose things 100 times more.

Agreed - I think the consensus in the comments is that if this happens, I should just let everyone submit ideas and vote. :)

Chibi Biscuit

That's a really good point, and I think you're right - if I go ahead with this for one month, everyone will be able to submit ideas and vote.

I appreciate the feedback - this would never be a 'forever' thing, it would be for a single month. I just thought it could be a positive experience to give folks in the $1 and $5 tiers a chance to throw their idea in the ring once so they could see how much fun it is! After getting feedback from everyone, I think it's pretty clear that it would be important to let *everyone* vote and submit ideas, with no restriction.

Chibi Biscuit

No need to preface your comment; you can say what you wish directly and you aren't going to offend me. To be fair, I was maybe a little overzealous with my own comment here. I openly admit it was late and I was tired, so it wasn't written with the clearest of minds. My apologies if I came across as offensive or hostile. However, I do honestly dislike the idea and I was a little worried that Chibi might be using this to test the waters for altering the patron tier rewards. Being able to actually vote on what the C-Biscuit works on next is one of my favorite parts of following him on Patreon and it would be disappointing to lose that. If it really will just be a one time deal though, then I am fine with it.

Sure why not?

Not to sound like a total bitch, but it's just for one month. It isn't the end of the world.....

Takai Biscuit

It's a month. I really don't think it's a huge deal. Go for it.

I like the idea, could be fun, but maybe let the 10 dollar tier vote and submit ideas still.

First off, while I think your heart in is in the right place, this idea leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What's the use of coming up with an idea if you don't even get to vote on it? It seems unfair to both the lower tier, who end up with no say in the actual choice, and the upper tier, who get no say in the pool of choices. Either way, somebody loses. No, I simply can't support that. I find the idea of just allowing ALL patrons to submit ideas to the pool and then vote on it for one month much more appetizing. Second, my dislike for this set-up is strong enough that if for some reason this situation was made permanent and ideas came from the lower tiers and only the upper tier got to vote, I would really have no choice but to show myself the door. I value my option to vote much more than my choices to vote on.

Evermore

Could be fun. Only way I can see this not working is that there will be too many ideas and too few voters.
