This is the same text that was with the pixiv post. I'm just copying it here so you can read it if you missed it 😊 Hey guyyys! As you may know already, I always try to go for photorealism, but even though that word usually means that it looks very close to something real, photorealism really means that it looks close to photography! These lasts months I've been reading research papers on how to make synthetic images (3d renders here) look more like real pictures. I've been looking into AI stuff too, and even though I'm sure it could work, I've decided to stick to photo manipulation that emulates what happens in real cameras, not just slap noise on top of the render. So here we are with my latest results. Of course it's dirty and any sane person would be flabbergasted when I say that I want renders to look worse, but that's what it takes to achieve photorealism in my case. That's not perfect yet of course, I'll keep working and exploring what I can do to make it look better and closer to the real thing. The first picture is with noise and motion blur, as any picture taken in a low light situation needs higher ISO and longer exposure to look bright enough, sometimes so long that you can't help but move while the picture is being taken. Second one is without motion blur, as people aren't always shaky even when the exposure is long. Third one is without noise but with motion blur, and the fourth one is without either blur or noise, to show what the image looks like originally. The noise is made in blender in compositor, while the motion blur is made during render, as adding motion blur in compositor usually looks fake. It may not be obvious that the noise is special, of course, but it's closer to what a real picture looks like because it is added at the moment the photons hit the camera sensor, hence why real noise is never just black and white, but always red, green, and blue. As cameras don't capture color, they capture luminance values for each color, one color per pixel, in a pattern called the Bayer pattern. That's precisely what I'm emulating here. I could write about that for hours, but I'll stop for now. If you've read all that, don't be scared and tell me what you think about it, I'd love to have some opinions, as I've been the only critic of this new technique so far, and I'd like to know what you think about it too! uncensored: https://pth.fanbox.cc/posts/3905214
