Hello lovelies,
I have a special magical herb mini guide for you - see the downloadable PDF below!
I first studied herbalism almost twenty years ago, and herbs have long been an important part of my magic, whether in my kitchen witchery or in other magical workings. Connecting with herbs intuitively is a powerful process that can enhance your everyday life and magical practices.
Start by using your senses to get to know the herbs. Hold a sprig of rosemary or a bundle of sage in your hands. Feel the texture of the leaves and stems. Notice whether they’re smooth, rough, soft, or prickly. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, inhaling the herb’s natural scent. Herbs have distinctive aromas that can evoke different feelings—lavender might make you feel calm and relaxed, while mint could be refreshing and invigorating.
Look closely at the herb’s appearance. Observe the colour and shape of the leaves, flowers, or seeds. Each herb has its own visual signature, and these characteristics can tell you a lot about its properties. Bright green basil leaves, for example, are often associated with prosperity and protection, while the delicate petals of chamomile flowers are linked to peace and relaxation.
Taste can also play a role in connecting with herbs. If the herb is safe to consume, try a small nibble or make a tea. Notice the flavours—are they bitter, sweet, or spicy? The taste of an herb can give you clues about its magical uses. For instance, the spicy kick of ginger might be energising and stimulating, making it great for spells involving courage and strength.
Choosing the right herb in your magical practice is often about following your intuition. When you’re at a market or in your garden, let yourself be drawn to the herbs that catch your eye or have a scent that appeals to you. Trust your instincts—often, the herbs you need will naturally attract you.
You may wish to use herbs in your magical practice by making sachets, teas, or infusions. Place them under your pillow for dreams, burn them as incense, or carry them in a charm bag. You can also add them to baths or use them in cooking to infuse your food with their magical properties. For example, adding basil to your meals can invite prosperity and protection into your life.
Meditate with herbs by holding them or placing them nearby as you focus on your intentions. Let their natural energy align with yours, helping to amplify your desires and goals. Herbs can also be used in spellwork to enhance your rituals and make your magic more potent.
Blessed be xx
Iris
