I'm building Serenity!

I don't think I've actually made a real announcement about this, so this is a combination update and announcement. I'm debuting a new music video at Denver Comic Con, and it's a cover of the Firefly theme, "The Ballad of Serenity"!

As you guys know, I am in progress on a Kaylee costume! This thing is almost done — all it's missing is some wig styling and a loooot of weathering!

At first I wasn't sure what to do with this music video. I knew I wanted to do the theme song, but I wasn't sure if it made sense for Kaylee to sing it. Plus, I'm really not a country fan, so I wanted to make sure I took the song in a musical direction that aligned with my tastes better.

Blake, who does all of my music, was a little stumped too, until I sent him a rough attempt at arranging the violin interlude from the original song for a few voices. (You can listen to that first attempt on my Patron Instagram!) Working from that, Blake came up with a sort of 80s goth/"The Smiths" concept that I think is going to be really unique and bring a new flavor to the song!

Arranging parts of the song for what is essentially an "all Ginny" women's choir inspired me, too! I was stuck on what to do for the music video, but that concept inspired me to step into both Mal and Jayne's shoes as well as Kaylee's for the video. And of course, I needed a location — which is why I started building Serenity's cargo bay in my parents' garage a few days ago! Here are a few progress pictures from the work we've done so far.

My mom spotted this massive piece of packing styrofoam while at the hardware store, so we decided to turn it into a porthole! My brother does these cool spray paint space scenes, so he's going to make me one to go outside the porthole.

(For now, SPACE will have to do!!)

My parents are cool enough to let me repaint their garage with a sci-fi theme, so I taped off some of the chevron pattern that's all over Serenity's cargo bay walls and painted it onto a few spots in the set.

My dad made three gorgeous, sturdy crates from pallets, and I stenciled them with some text and symbols from all over the 'Verse! You can see the final results in the top photo of this post. I hope Google translate served me well!! The intended definitions are in this next photo.

I'm also going to be using these crates at my booth at Denver Comic Con, to store merch and stuff! Useful and stylish!

I'll be filming on Sunday! Make sure to keep an eye on my Patreon Instagram for to-the-minute updates from the day of filming. Meanwhile, I'll try and get you guys some sneak previews of my Mal and Jayne looks before the weekend hits.

girrrrrl you really go all-out! i love this level of detail and quality. Plus the fact that your parents are supportive and help contribute is AMAZING!

YES! I don't know how I'd "keep flying" without my family's support!! <3

It's kinda appropriate that this is such a family led project. Your own crew came together to get your boat into the air!! And that is what makes this as beautiful as it is!
