No matter how many conventions I work over the course of the year, I always look forward to DragonCon the most! It's my one con a year that is strictly for fun, not for business. At DragonCon I hang out with my friends, I stay up late and party, I wear silly costumes that aren't "marketable," and I DO WHATEVER I WANT! Now that most of my conventions have me delivering panels, judging contests, doing signings, and running a booth, it's so freeing to have this one con where I can just be myself and goof off.
This year my fiancé Josh and I roomed with our friends Jesse and Laura of JessoLaurus Rex! I wore my Keyleth while Jesse wore Grog and Laura wore Vex. We got some photos with The Portrait Dude and Alexandra Brumley, both of whom also shot my Jester, Jesse's Fjord, and Laura's Ruby, plus the amazing Dustin Fletcher as The Gentleman! (Stay tuned for those family photos... haha!)
As for new costumes, Josh and I debuted Sokka and Katara, which were a big hit! We're planning a real photoshoot for those costumes now, although our friend Andy of Valentine Costumes snapped a few shots for us at the con.
I also brought two kind of silly costumes that only really make sense at a con like DragonCon, where everybody does niche costumes! First Laura and I dressed as Hårga girls from our recent favorite horror movie Midsommar, with Josh accompanying in a bear onesie — a joke that really only makes sense if you've seen the movie. I was so surprised by how many people recognized these costumes! One woman spotted us from the top of the escalator and yelled "THAT'S JUST NOT RIGHT!" 😂
Laura and I also teamed up as Susie and Midge from the Amazon Prime show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a recent favorite of ours! Again, I was surprised how many people recognized us, and I had a grand time whipping out my "Jewish mom" accent that I often use around the house, haha.
I also had the pleasure of being a guest star alongside voice actor Mark Meer on the Sunday night show of liveplay D&D stream D4! You can watch the episode back on Twitch. We were raising money for the American Heart Association, and after DragonCon matched our earnings, we passed $6,000 in donations. So cool!
Now that I'm back, it's crunch time for the Centaur of Attention book, since the group photoshoot is later this month. Can't wait to show you guys more on that!
