Arcane S01 E09 'The Monster You Created' Reaction

Not a whole lot to talk about with this one… More of a filler episode, really…

The Arcane analysis channel I mention during my review: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQ4DJ_2CTh6gzJmadJfgTa0gZenW_735v

(Also in regards to schnee’s channel, I would stay away from his season 2 prediction videos if you want to go into the season blind. He links a lot of Legends lore to his predictions and I stopped watching one of his videos halfway through because I want to be totally surprised by what season 2 brings and not waiting for the LoL shoe to drop, so to speak. Just a warning to you guys if that’s something that matters to you too!)

I’ll see you dweebs next Monday with my first reaction to Amphibia :D

Oof that line STILL has me crying and I watched this finale 2 weeks ago 🤣😭 There's absolutely no doubt he cared about her... and put her first in many ways. I think the line he says to Vander's statue hurts so good too "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" 🥺 If people want to say Silco was "just saying those things" to Jinx during his death "to get her to complete the weapon/mission", they can't use that excuse for this scene. He thought he was alone, and he still professed his love for her.

Still clutching my pearls over that line. You know the writers were all high-fiving whoever came up with that banger (probably a joint effort, but I like this imagery lol)

Aww thanks Lukasz :’) And oh my gosh, the greek tragedy comparison is one the best I’ve heard. It absolutely reads that way and as devastating as it is it’s almost… somehow… refreshing? Like you said about the characters- sometimes we in life have little agency over what happens to us (some things we can control, others not so much), and so many of our decisions have adverse consequences we would have never anticipated or wanted. This ending feels raw and real and that’s why it hurts so good.

Where Silco tells Jinx, "Don't cry, you're perfect", always gets me. At this point if there were still any doubts about whether he actually cared about Jinx, they should have been immediately erased. He may not have been the best dad by any means, but I think he was the best dad for Jinx.

"In the pursuit of great, we failed to do good." It is one of best, most emotional quotes I ever heard in a story.

It is ok to cry. It absolutely does hit differently than most of modern stories, especially animations, doesn't it? I agree with opinion that ARCANE storyteling has more in common with fatalism of classic greek tragedies than the agency of hero journey stories popular nowdays. In the sense of how limited contol over the world and over the consequences of their own action, story characters have.
