From Discoverie / Pseudomonarcia
Ipos, alias Ayporos, is a great earle and a prince, appeering in the shape of an angell, and yet indeed more obscure and filthie than a lion, with a lions head, a gooses feet, and a hares taile: he knoweth things to come and past, he maketh a man wittie, and bold, and hath under his jurisdiction thirtie six legions.
From The Lesser Key
The Twenty-second Spirit is Ipos. He is an Earl, and a Mighty Prince, and eppeareth in the form of an Angel with a Lion's Head, and a Goose's Foot, and Hare's Tail. He knoweth all things Past, Present and to Come. He maketh men witty and bold. He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, which thou shalt wear, etc.
From the book of spirits
Vipos est un grant conte qui appert en semblance d'un ange, et faict home saige et hardy, et dit verité de ce que on luy demande ; et a xxv legions.
-
Vipos is a great Count whose appearance is like that of an angel, who acts as a wise and bold/audacious man, and answers the truth to everything he is asked, and has 25 legions
Appearance: Angelic. Leonine body but with a goose head and a cute lil rabbit tail.
Subrace: Fallen Angel
Abilities: Divination and wit.
Legions: 36
Rank: Prince
Notes: Sometimes depicted more as a vulture. Another “Makes men witty and reveals the past and future” demon. De Plancy also cites treasure and divination powers.
Brand of Greed? - Which sin to give Ipos is unclear.
Comments
When I was younger I stumbled onto the Lesser Book of Solomon and other occult texts because I was interested in Lovecraftian horror. I remember reading somewhere that Ipos is associated with Anubis but I can’t tell if that’s accurate?
